                               Reunion  2015 Daily orders

Esplanade Hotel , Belmont Road , Scarborough

                               Friday Oct 9th Ė Monday Oct 12th

                      Reunion Wash-up 2015

Friday 9th Oct == Started off well with shipmates arriving from that other country North of Newcastle called Jock land and from the far west across our shores Northern Ireland so itís good to see that after all these years The Llandaff still means a lot to the people who once served on her, Friday afternoon watch flew past with shipmates who hadnít seen each other in nearly 40 years!!! The lamps were swinging and the salt was being brushed off the collars.

Great to see some new faces this year , Peter & Sandra Stich , Bill Mathewman, Tony& Julie Brooks, Mary Durrant joined her husband Chunky for her first reunion and Pete Adshead bought along some guests Ian & Julia Corley and Paul & Rose Williams/ McCrath we hope you all enjoyed yourselves and that we will see you all again next year.

After Dinner most of us retired to the ballroom for some hands to Skylarking and as it happens The Llandaff X Factor show took place however only Charlie Williams and Chris Howley reached the final!!!

It was a long night but very enjoyable and very funny when the DJ referred to our Enmutainments occifer L/Sea John Thompson as Tommy!!!! Thought Tommo was going to knock him out.

I personally ended up in the Quarterdeck bar with the Chisholmís and a few others until around 0330 oh and by the way when a Scotsman tells you that he can drink for Britain donít believe it Hamish Sterling never made Dinner not alone the evening .

At Breakfast Saturday morning there were a few confused Ratings hanging around and making out that they were enjoying a good old fashion fry up?? Del Boy Owen front and centre!!! The only thing missing was your Grandfathers cardigan and dummy.

After Breakie most of the ships company decided to go ashore and explore what Scarborough had to offer when all of a sudden L/Seaman John Thompson had a misfire from the stern end and had to retreat back to his cabin to re organise himself .

After a pleasant run ashore it was time to clean into number 1s for our Gala Dinner, The food was excellent and the table wine was provided by our very own Budgie Imms who is still sailing the high seas running a fanny boat out of New York, Thanks Budgie we look forward to you coming to a future reunion and the second star of the night was our Guest speaker our very own Geoff Say.

Geoff has not had an easy time of late with his health and thatís the reason I asked him to be our speaker, He has been a very strong supporter of our association from day one plus I thought it would take his mind off all the shit he has been going through this past couple of years and anyway it gave him something to do!!!

Best decision I could have made and Iím so glad he accepted the challenge as he was without doubt one of our best after Dinner speakers for our reunions a hard act to follow.

After Dinner we had time for a Skylark and dance and of course the Llandaff Raffle!!! Thanks to Fiona Moffatt for selling the tickets and helping me to draw it in quick time, Fee mugged you all in true Llandaff style as the raffle raised around about £325!!!! A special thanks goes to Susanne Carey for the Knitted Llandaff Sailor who everyone wanted so we auctioned it. All was going well until the Bride decided to offer £65 of my money!!!  At this point I thought What the FóCK and told her to remain seated, by now thinking I was about to surrender and give up Stan Holloway manned the guns and decided to have a shoot-out with Janet Lancaster!!!! Janet came out the winner and the look she gave Stan was one of Iím not going to be beaten!!! She paid up £110 for the Llandaff sailor which was amazing

After the evening of fun some of us retired to the Quarterdeck bar for a nightcap??? Like you do when you still think that youíre a young bit of skin Scruffy sailor serving on the Llandaff !!!! All was well going into the middle watch until we got hit by a broadside attack by a young gate crasher who decided to throw abuse at a few of us and take on Mike Chisholm!!!!! Big mistake me old mucker as Shorty Jackie Chisholm is a Rottweiler and soon had things under control with her tongue and a half nelson aided by myself and Pete Adshead the idiot was handed over to the duty crushers and taken away .

I have to mention that The Jock, Hamish Sterling was last to turn in as he still had energy from the previous night having missed it!!!!

Sunday morning arrived and most made it to breakfast so at 1145 some of the fit ones headed ashore to the railway club and the rest of us took Fast Blacks.

On Arrival we found that we were joined by 2 other ships companyís in being HMS Ganges (where true sailors were trained) and HMS Trowbridge so the place was a bit hectic and due to a communication error L/sea Thompson your Enmetaintments occifer couldnít or I should say wasnít allowed to perform his usual high standard Sods Opera, however he did slip a couple of tunes in with his new Choir.

The afternoon session went well and we were well looked after by the Local RNA Branch so we gave them a donation towards the Pie and peas that they dished out I got side-lined most of the time due to all the Ganges boys I met and have not seen for a couple of years, Didnít know I was so bloody popular!!! We were also given a Ships crested plague of RNA Scarborough to which Priggy Price will find a home for but the highlight of the afternoon for myself and I know for most of you was the appearance of Derick Ferdinand all dressed up in his number 1 s . As many of you know sadly Ferdy lost his wife Denise earlier in the year and has since been residing in a nursing home due to Alzheimerís disease, he was in good form and knew who most of us were but thanks must go out to John Bolton and Paddy Gogerty for collecting him from the home and returning him later B.Z Boys!!!

After what was a great afternoon everyone returned back on board for a Sunday Roast then quite a few of us retired hurt and turned in.

Monday was soon upon us and it was time to say farewell for another year.

What a lot of you didnít realise was that we had a few problems with the hotel due to far too many chiefs and not enough Indians and the fact that they didnít listen to Slingers requirements and to be honest they havenít done for the past 8 months . It seems to me that we always seem to get more hic cups when we are north of Watford Gap!!! itís a good job we never let the problems spoil our weekend and at the end of the day itís the people that make reunions not the Hotels, anyway I had planned to return to Cardiff next year to celebrate 40 years since we laid up the ships Bell however Iíve tried real hard to get a deal in place but it seems that Cardiff think we are all lottery winners!!! With this in mind I have decided to book Eastbourne to celebrate our 40th year since handing over the ship so the date for your planning is 21st Ė 24th October details to follow just after Christmas leave.

Clubs Ken Rutherford has suggested that maybe itís time to form a committee and have AGMs  to ease the work load for myself and the Bride , This you will as members have to  decide on what way you wish to carry on forward . I personally donít want to see this association go too formal in any way and start having Rules and regulations, back in the early days I subsidised the whole of the association and then as we grew we (The Members) took a decision to have a bank account and pay £3 a year subs to stay afloat and the chance to form a committee was thrown out!!! At the time none of you wanted to take that course if you now feel that should change then please let me know and we will call a meeting and change the way we (The Members) do things. In the meantime subject to my health improving over the next year myself and the Bride will continue to organise our lets have Fun reunions!!!! Always open to suggestions of where to go but if the majority of you decide North of Watford Gap please be prepared to helping out one way or another.

You can catch up with all the photos that were taken over the weekend on our web site www.hmsllandaff.co.uk or on our facebook page , Donít forget Ian Bailey runs our web page and if you would like to add anything to it please get in touch with Ian .

Just one last thing, we decided to make a donation to the Sea Cadet unit that our very own Stan Holloway is now running, more details to follow, and after making a donation to the RNA at the railway club, paying for the Fast Blacks, looking after some of the staff at the hotel etc. etc. we hold a balance of nearly £600 in the kitty, enough to see us through to our next Gathering

This year we were missing some regulars due to one reason or another and we hope to see them back on board next year.

70 attended reunion which is close to our best ever attendance!!!!

Remember itís the People that make reunions

Thanks everyone for all your help and support

Canít wait to do it all again!!!!

Slinger & Bride

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello everybody,

I think by now you will all have read Slingers funny and informative letter, where, I seem to have been cast as the villain of the piece?  Please, I want everyone to know that wasnít my intention.  Yes, I think Slinger & Bride could use some help but I also feel we need to keep an eye on the future, as there will come a time when Slinger and Denise (our brilliant and unique partner team) decide to call it a day.  We will need more than a couple of people to take over the organisation of our very special reunions.  I realise that I may have sounded more than a little OTT to suggest AGMís.

I apologise to anyone who feels that I have come across as a spoiler of fun!!!  See you all in Eastbourne next year.

PS  I have offered to run 2017 reunion in York.
